Cost Controller

Office Location: Melbourne, Hobart, Traralgon & Burnie

Your Role

As a Cost Controller, you'll play a critical role in
ensuring the project remains within approved budgets while providing accurate
cost forecasting, financial analysis, and performance reporting to support
informed decision-making.

You'll:

  • Monitor
    project expenditure, commitments, accruals, forecasts, contingency
    utilisation, and forecast-at-completion (FAC) performance.
  • Develop
    and maintain cost reports, dashboards, and performance metrics for project
    leadership and governance forums.
  • Analyse
    cost trends, variances, and emerging financial risks and opportunities,
    providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Coordinate
    monthly cost forecasting activities with delivery teams, contractors, and
    commercial stakeholders.
  • Review
    contractor cost submissions and forecasts to ensure alignment with scope,
    delivery assumptions, and approved baselines.
  • Support
    cost assurance reviews, estimate reviews, and periodic reforecasting
    exercises.
  • Work
    closely with planning, risk, and commercial teams to align project scope,
    schedule, risk, and cost outcomes.
  • Maintain
    and improve cost control systems, reporting tools, dashboards, and data
    quality processes.
  • Contribute
    to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of project controls
    standards, governance frameworks, and reporting practices.

You'll Need

  • Relevant
    tertiary qualifications in Project Controls, Engineering, Project
    Management, Finance, Estimating, Risk Management, Quantity Surveying, or a
    related discipline (desirable).
  • Demonstrated
    experience in cost control, project controls, commercial reporting, or
    project finance within major infrastructure, construction, transport,
    utilities, energy, rail, roads, or capital projects environments.
  • Strong
    understanding of cost forecasting, budgeting, cost reporting, financial
    analysis, and project controls methodologies.
  • Experience
    with Earned Value Management (EVM), risk management, and contemporary cost
    estimating techniques.
  • Experience
    working with large-scale, complex infrastructure projects and
    multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Strong
    analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret
    complex financial and project data.
  • Excellent
    stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to
    challenge assumptions and influence outcomes.
  • Experience
    working within complex matrix organisations and collaborative project
    environments.
  • Experience
    with Incentivised Target Cost (ITC) contracts will be highly regarded.
  • A
    high level of computer literacy, including experience with project
    controls systems, reporting tools, and advanced Microsoft Excel.

About Marinus Link

Marinus Link is a new undersea and underground electricity and data interconnector between North West Tasmania and the Latrobe Valley in Victoria.

The two-way energy highway will enable Tasmania and Victoria to share much more electricity, pairing Victoria’s wind and solar with Tasmania’s flexible hydropower system and geographically diverse wind. This is a powerful synergy that strengthens the grid for both states.

Marinus Link's fibre optic cables will improve digital connectivity between Tasmania and Victoria by 150 times.

Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) is jointly owned by the Commonwealth of Australia, the State of Tasmania and the State of Victoria. MLPL is responsible for progressing the Marinus Link interconnector project.
