Responsibilities

  • Lead protective device coordination, short-circuit, load flow, motor starting, grounding, and arc flash studies using ETAP or similar power system analysis software.

  • Develop, review, maintain, and document protective relay settings, time-current coordination curves, logic diagrams, control schemes, and protection philosophies for electrical systems up to 120kV.

  • Analyze relay event records, fault reports, oscillography, breaker operations, and protection misoperations; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

  • Provide technical ownership for SEL, GE, and related protection platforms, including AcSELerator QuickSet, GE Enervista, RTAC interfaces, and protection-related SCADA points.

  • Support commissioning, acceptance testing, and energization of relays, breakers, switchgear, transformers, generators, and protection/control circuits.

  • Maintain protection documentation, settings files, as-left records, study models, one-lines, three-lines, and management-of-change records in accordance with site standards.

  • Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills in power distribution, transmission, and generation systems, ensuring safe and reliable system performance.

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison with internal stakeholders and electrical utility companies regarding protection requirements, coordination, power system performance, compliance audits, and troubleshooting support.

  • Review engineering consultant and contractor deliverables for capital projects, including one-lines, three-lines, protection studies, relay settings, control schematics, test procedures, and study reports.

  • Provide oversight for construction and commissioning of power system-related capital projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, protection requirements, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead maintenance and reliability initiatives for power distribution switchgear, transformers, generators, protective relays, breakers, and associated control systems.

  • Coordinate with and manage external contractors and consultants involved in electrical system projects, ensuring adherence to scope, deliverables, timelines, budget, quality standards, and site safety requirements.

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, reliability improvement, and protection system standardization within power system operations.

  • Oversee power system-related projects from initiation to completion, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication.

  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards in all power system activities, promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.

  • Ensure that all power system initiatives and projects align with Nevada Gold Mines core values and objectives, promoting efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence.
