Correspondents / Video Journalists (f/m/d) for Dari/Pashto in Pakistan


We are seeking for programming in Islamabad, Pakistan correspondents / video journalists (f/m/d) for Dari/Pashto as of 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible on the basis of a freelance contract limited for two years.

To expand our presence and coverage in Pakistan we are looking for journalists with multimedia expertise to report for Dari/Pashto from Pakistan and the region.

Role

  • independent research, planning, and realization of journalistic pieces from Pakistan and the region, with a focus on political, social, and security related topics, as well as their impact on Afghanistan and Pashto/Dari speaking audiences
  • production of digital first content for social media, with a focus on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook: scriptwriting, shooting, moderation, editing, subtitling, and post-production
  • creating reports, interviews, background pieces, explainers, and short-form content - both in consultation with the editorial team in Bonn and based on own pitches
  • produce video content for online, social media, and TV, as well as conducting live broadcasts and live stand-ups during current events; provide rapid and independent coverage of breaking news and develop platform appropriate content for various channels
  • build and maintain a robust network of political decision-makers, government agencies, academia, civil society, international organizations, as well as Afghan and Pakistani communities
  • monitor political, social, and digital developments in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and identify relevant trends and topics for the Pashto/Dari editorial team
  • work closely with the editorial team in Bonn and correspondents from other DW language departments to plan, produce, and adapt multimedia content

Profile

  • university degree in journalism, media or communication studies, or an equivalent qualification, with several years of professional journalistic experience, ideally as a correspondent or video journalist in an international setting
  • in-depth knowledge of political, social, and security developments in Pakistan and Afghanistan, with a strong affinity for digital storytelling and the ability to present complex topics in a multimedia format tailored to the target audience
  • experience with live reporting and strong on-camera presence
  • demonstrated experience in the independent production of multimedia content - from research, camera operation, and moderation to editing and publication; excellent knowledge of producing platform-specific content for social media, particularly TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
  • experience in mobile journalism (MoJo) and in working with professional camera, audio, and lighting equipment; proficiency in using video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable programs) as well as social media and content management systems
  • excellent communication skills with proficient written and spoken Pashto or Dari skills (min. C1 level) and very good English skills (min. B2 level) required; additional knowledge of Dari or Pashto and/or German an advantage, with a high degree of intercultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • ability to work independently, set priorities, and produce high-quality content even under high time pressure, while demonstrating strong teamwork skills and a willingness to collaborate closely with the editorial teams in Bonn and at other DW offices
  • willingness to travel within Pakistan and - provided the security situation permits - to Afghanistan and the region
