Examples of duties

This role focuses on maintaining steady and effective operations of the wastewater treatment plant while leading inmate workers. As a Water Treatment Plant Foreman, you will perform the following duties:

  • Plant Operations: Maintain daily and emergency operations by interpreting gauges, meters, and sensing devices
  • Equipment Care: Clean, service, and repair equipment to ensure proper function
  • Chemical Testing: Test water chemistry, record results, and manage chemical inventories
  • Documentation: Complete logs, paperwork, and purchase requests in accordance with regulations
  • Crew Oversight: Direct inmate workers, monitor movement, and maintain a safe and secure workspace
  • Compliance Checks: Conduct searches, manage tool control, and follow safety and regulatory guidelines

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Wednesday - Sunday.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:

  • One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or higher than a Class C with subclasses 1, 7, 8, and 11.
  • You must possess a valid Class E certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators.
  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
