Examples of duties

This position supports the safe and efficient operation of the boiler plant at SCI Dallas by maintaining equipment, monitoring system performance, and assisting with inmate work crews. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:

  • Boiler Operation: Monitor and maintain three large steam boilers under normal and emergency conditions
  • Auxiliary Systems: Operate and maintain pumps, fans, chemical systems, and other support equipment
  • Water Testing: Test boiler water chemistry and keep accurate logs of all results and chemical inventories
  • Work Crew Oversight: Guide inmate workers, ensure safety, enforce policies, and maintain secure tool control
  • Plant Care: Complete housekeeping tasks, conduct inventories, and maintain a clean and organized work area

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
