Rayburn Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated, highly motivated Corrections Lieutenant to join our leadership team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, security, and operational integrity of the facility. The ideal candidate is an experienced corrections professional with strong leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to guide staff while upholding the mission, values, and standards of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. As a Corrections Lieutenant, you will oversee daily operations, support staff development, ensure policy compliance, and contribute to a secure and orderly environment for both staff and inmates.

Examples of duties

Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
2. One year of experience in any field; OR
3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current driver's license.

Supplemental information

  • Conducts on the job training to insure officers understand duties which have been assigned and performs his duties in an efficient, acceptable manner.
  • Notifies superiors of any unusual incidents/occurrences, performs initial investigations, and insures security/safety of individuals involved.
  • Responds to emergency situations, and assists in bringing emergencies under control.
  • Assists with setup of roll call and with staff inspections.
  • Oversees and/or assists with unscheduled shakedowns within living and working areas of inmates, including inmates, in order to locate and confiscate contraband.
  • This position serves as supervisor, under the direction of a Corrections Captain and a Shift Major, to Master Sergeants, Sergeants and Cadets

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: DETAIL OF A permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

  • An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available

Compensation:

  • This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.79 per hour.

  • There is also ‘Premium Pay’ for this position: A rate between $.50 an hour and $1.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
