The Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester plays a vital role in applying practical electrical expertise in a secure environment. Examples of duties

This position provides classroom and on-the-job training in the electrical trade to inmates within a structured program. The work supports daily operations through instruction, supervision, tool control, and documentation. As a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Electrical Instruction: Teach installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance practices for electrical systems and equipment
  • Classroom Training: Deliver curriculum content, maintain order, and document inmate progress and attendance
  • Work Crew Guidance: Direct and oversee inmate work crews completing electrical work orders and inspect finished tasks
  • Tool Control: Issue, inventory, and account for materials and tools during training and work assignments
  • Material Planning: Determine needed tools and materials and submit purchase requests when required

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,036.00 (before taxes).
  • A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
