Examples of duties

This position supports the safe and orderly operation of the state-operated Harrisburg Community Corrections Center by overseeing reentrant activity and maintaining essential records. It plays an important part in helping individuals move forward toward successful community reintegration. As a Corrections Community Center Monitor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Oversight: Monitor reentrant behavior, maintain activity logs, and observe center operations
  • Security Checks: Conduct counts, searches, fire drills, and inspections of reentrants, property, and living areas
  • Information Guidance: Provide orientation, explain rules, and give direction regarding available public services
  • Behavior Documentation: Record observations, issue misconducts, and participate in disciplinary hearings
  • Support Services: Assist reentrants in making necessary adjustments that promote a successful community return
  • Public Interaction: Respond to visitor questions, address concerns, and serve as a contact for law enforcement agencies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,999.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must have the ability to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work. (Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations, and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile, or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience)
  • One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include but are not limited to performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the military)
