The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Division of Institution is eager to hire those committed to excellence and seeking a career path in public safety.
This posting is for six (6) Regional Correctional Transportation Officer positions, that will report directly to the Regional Security Coordinator in the Central Region Office, which is in Raleigh, NC, Wake County, but will serve the geographic area of the region as needed to transport offender(s), in departmental vehicles. These positions will be 8-hour shifts Mon-Fri with possible callback. Start times will vary depending on transportation trip schedule. Must be flexible and available to work weekends, holidays and possible evenings based on operational needs. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Key Duties Include:
- Exercising independent decision-making within established policies and
procedures due to physical separation from supervisory personnel.
- Providing custody supervision of offender(s) in their custody and control.
- Enforcing rules and regulations for safety, health, and protection of offenders.
- Performing searches of people, places, and objects.
- Performing rescue functions to include CPR, basic first aid, physically
removing people from dangerous areas and using fire equipment to include
fire hoses, extinguishers and breathing apparatuses.
- Establishing and maintaining control of violent or uncooperative offenders.
Being able to defend oneself or others against violent attacks.
- Loading, unloading, aiming, and firing handguns, shotguns, and rifles at the
level of proficiency required, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times
to include times of mental and verbal abuse by offender.
- Effectively communicate with offenders, staff, and members of the public.
- Will perform other duties assigned by the Regional Office.
The selected candidates may be required to work any shift including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage. This position is considered essential and will be required to report during times of inclement weather.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $41,558.00 - $54,078.00

Documented experience in offender supervision
Documented experience with weapons and other security equipment
Documented experience with searches

About The Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
