ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SENTENCE SPECIALIST-SES

This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Florida State Prison in the Classification Department.

Our mission in the Classification Department is to accurately assess and classify inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Take on the critical task of verifying and manually calculating tentative release dates, ensuring they align with commitment papers and legal statutes. Communicate with relevant agencies to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Lead the preparation of release documents, verify final release dates, and ensure all necessary authorizations and records are perfectly in order for inmate release.
  • Ensure precision by maintaining accurate data entry in the inmate information system, assist in training new employees, and supervise data entry staff.
  • Manage the daily maintenance of inmate records, including updates on cell changes, work assignments, disciplinary reports, and sentence modifications.
  • Be at the forefront of justice by preparing affidavits, testifying in court, coordinating inter-state detainer actions, and supervising the transfer of inmate files, all while ensuring compliance with policies and standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Supervisory skills preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, or Power Point.
  • Experience auditing, analyzing, and/or interpreting data. Familiarity with sentence structure is preferred.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
