The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. of Work

This position is located at the Eastern Region Office in Greenville, NC.

This position will report directly to the Assistant Region Director and will assist in the management and supervision of the thirteen (13) prison facilities located in the Eastern Region. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-- This position supervises subordinate Region staff responsible for development and monitoring audits, inspections and providing emergency assistance (escapes, insurrections, fires, deaths, etc.), and reviewing and assisting in disciplinary cases.
-- This position assists with needs for changes in organizational structures, roles, staffing patterns, and scheduling through input from facility heads and review of the operations of the unit. Major changes are reviewed and approved by the Region Director and Prison Administration.
-- Position will provide Regional assistance regarding training initiatives.
Work involves ensuring that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and procedures are consistent with Division Policies. May develop internal pr ocedures to meet the needs or accomplish the goals of a specific facility.
-- This position monitors operations through on-site inspection of facilities, monthly reports, and input from Region staff. Ensures quality and quantity of work through inspection of units and review of activities.
-- This position discusses problems with subordinates, giving guidance and counsel and will also conduct staff disciplinary investigations.
Position is responsible for conducting performance evaluations with subordinate region staff members, and for participating in the interview/selection process for promotions with significant input into selection.
-- This position will conduct staff investigations and complete the final investigation report.
-- The position requires someone who has the capability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and the ability to think clearly and act quickly and effectively during emergencies.
-- This position will assist with the oversight of the Central Region Special Teams: Regional Intelligence Team, Regional Drug Interdiction Team & Prison
Emergency Response Team
-- This position does involve travel and at times may require overnight accommodations.
-- This position also serves part of the Regional Command Center when natural disasters or extreme inclement weather occur and will be required to work longer than normal work hours.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $70,478,.00 - $123,336.00

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of supervisory, administrative, or consultative experience in Corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council.
