Job Description

CharteredPartners is seeking an experienced corporate tax professional to join our client in Sydney at Partner level. The successful candidate will lead corporate and business tax advisory delivery, own client origination and practice growth, and act as a senior signatory on complex compliance and advisory matters across the Australian market. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Confidential Client. Applying to this position means that you are interested to have an initial confidential discussion about how we can help you to identify and join a new accounting-firm practice. With your authorisation we will exclusively run the entire application and recruitment process for you, keeping you apprised at every step. With over 30 years' combined experience of helping the most talented accounting, audit, tax and advisory professionals to make safe, well-judged moves into rewarding new roles, we have the experience, network and ability to help you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead corporate tax advisory and compliance engagements for large corporate and private groups, including consolidations, restructures and capital-management transactions.
  • Advise on the application of the 30% and 25% corporate tax rates, including base-rate-entity eligibility and the implications for distributions and franking.
  • Manage Division 7A exposures, loan and dividend planning for privately held groups, and associated compliance obligations.
  • Oversee transfer-pricing positions and Pillar Two readiness, including the Australian global and domestic minimum-tax measures, in coordination with specialist teams.
  • Originate and grow a client portfolio, leading proposals and converting referrals into long-term relationships.
  • Manage Australian Taxation Office reviews, risk reviews and disputes, including engagement under the justified-trust programme.
  • Provide partner-level review, sign-off and risk management across deliverables, and develop the technical capability of the team.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Chartered Accountant (CAANZ) or CPA Australia member, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) of The Tax Institute, or clear eligibility to attain the designation.
  • At least twelve years of Australian corporate tax experience, with substantial professional-services exposure.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Income Tax Assessment Acts, the consolidation regime and the dividend-imputation system.
  • Demonstrable command of Division 7A, capital gains tax and corporate-reorganisation rules.
  • Practical experience managing ATO engagement, risk reviews and dispute resolution.
  • A proven record of business development and portfolio ownership.
  • Strong technical writing and the ability to issue defensible advice and opinions.
  • Excellent relationship-management skills across boards, finance teams and the revenue authority.
  • Right to work in Australia, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate visa.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior partner, director or principal experience in a Big Four or reputable mid-tier firm.
  • Exposure to inbound investment, M&A tax and infrastructure or property structuring.
  • Familiarity with the GST regime at 10% and its interaction with corporate transactions.
  • Experience advising listed entities and large privately owned groups.
  • A visible market profile through publications, presentations or professional-body involvement.
  • An established referral network across legal, corporate-advisory and banking intermediaries.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.

Next Steps:

This opportunity is open to candidates who hold or can obtain the right to work in Australia and who match the above criteria. Please apply to receive prompt contact from an experienced and specialist accounting-firm recruitment consultant.
