Job Description

The Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for leading, implementing, and continuously improving Mactac North America's environmental, health, and safety programs across its manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and corporate operations. This position establishes enterprise EHS standards, provides functional leadership to Site EHS Managers, and partners with plant and senior operations leaders to strengthen Mactac's safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and reduce environmental, health, and safety risk.

Although the position does not have direct reports, it provides functional direction and leadership to Site EHS Managers through dotted-line reporting relationships. Success requires the ability to establish clear expectations, drive accountability, facilitate alignment across locations, and influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing enterprise-wide EHS standards, policies, procedures, and operating expectations that support regulatory compliance and consistent execution across all locations.
  • Providing functional leadership, technical direction, coaching, and oversight to Site EHS Managers through dotted-line reporting relationships.
  • Building alignment and accountability across a decentralized, multi-site organization by establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and a consistent EHS operating rhythm.
  • Partnering with plant managers, the Vice President of Operations, and other senior leaders to integrate EHS considerations into operational and business decisions.
  • Developing, coordinating, and driving programs and initiatives that foster a safety-first culture and active employee engagement.
  • Driving injury and illness prevention through risk assessments, equipment, process, and behavioral audits, corrective-action management, hazard identification, and rigorous implementation of safety programs.
  • Monitoring site EHS performance, identifying trends and material risks, and intervening when corrective actions, additional resources, or leadership support are required.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, local, and Mactac requirements, policies, permits, and reporting obligations.
  • Leading and continuously improving EHS training programs, including orientation, role-specific training, and recurring refresher training.
  • Providing enterprise oversight of industrial hygiene, lockout/tagout, machine safety, powered industrial truck and pedestrian interaction, safe maintenance, ergonomics, and other critical-risk programs.
  • Overseeing incident and injury reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and workers' compensation coordination.
  • Providing oversight and coordination of OSHA and other applicable regulatory compliance programs, inspections, inquiries, and required submissions.
  • Leading environmental compliance programs, including spill prevention and containment, Title V and other air permitting, industrial and stormwater permitting, waste management, and emergency response and contingency planning.
  • Driving sustainability improvements in waste reduction, energy conservation, water consumption, and spill prevention in partnership with operations and engineering.
  • Facilitating ISO certification and ongoing compliance activities, as applicable, and supporting continuous improvement of the EHS management system.
  • Developing leading and lagging indicators for injuries, environmental performance, sustainability, corrective actions, and management-system effectiveness; communicating insights and priorities to site and executive leadership.
  • Developing annual EHS operating-expense and capital-project recommendations and coordinating completion of approved EHS improvement projects.
  • Facilitating an enterprise EHS leadership network that promotes shared learning, standard practices, and timely escalation of significant risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive EHS experience, including responsibility in a multi-site manufacturing environment, is required.
  • Prior manufacturing experience required; experience in chemical, coatings, adhesives, converting, or operations involving solvents and hazardous materials strongly preferred.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Prior people leadership experience is preferred. Experience providing functional leadership, technical direction, coaching, or program oversight across multiple sites is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence in a matrixed or decentralized organization and to build accountability without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience partnering effectively with plant managers, operations executives, engineering leaders, Human Resources, and Site EHS Managers.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, ANSI, NFPA, workers' compensation, industrial hygiene, environmental permitting, and applicable state, provincial, and local requirements.
  • Experience with inspections, audits, hazard reviews, incident prevention, root-cause investigation, corrective-action systems, change management, and safety-culture improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using EHS metrics and data to identify risk, prioritize action, and communicate performance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and experience working with ERP and EHS management systems.
  • Enterprise mindset with the ability to balance standardization, regulatory requirements, and site-specific operational needs.
  • Credibility and executive presence to constructively challenge, coach, and influence leaders at all levels.
  • Clear and persuasive communication skills, including the ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements into practical business actions.
