Job Description

CharteredPartners is seeking a Corporate Finance Director to lead deal execution within the advisory practice of a respected accounting firm in Sydney. In this role you will run mid-market M&A and transaction engagements, own the quality of deliverables and manage senior client relationships across an active ASX and private-capital market. The mandate spans infrastructure and resources deals, independent expert's reports and broader transaction advisory, supporting partners in the growth of the practice. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Confidential Client. Applying to this position means that you are interested to have an initial confidential discussion about how we can help you to identify and join a new accounting-firm practice. With your authorisation we will exclusively run the entire application and recruitment process for you, keeping you apprised at every step. With over 30 years' combined experience of helping the most talented accounting, audit, tax and advisory professionals to make safe, well-judged moves into rewarding new roles, we have the experience, network and ability to help you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of mid-market M&A and transaction-advisory engagements, taking responsibility for process, analysis and outcomes.
  • Own the quality of deliverables, reviewing financial models, due-diligence findings and reports before they reach clients.
  • Manage senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser to boards, management and intermediaries.
  • Prepare and oversee independent expert's reports and valuations in line with ASIC regulatory guidance.
  • Support partners in business development, contributing to proposals, pitches and pricing for new mandates.
  • Direct and develop engagement teams, allocating work and mentoring managers and executives.
  • Advise on infrastructure, resources and mid-market deals, addressing sector-specific commercial and financial considerations.
  • Maintain technical rigour under AASB-aligned reporting and ASX continuous-disclosure requirements.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification (CA ANZ, ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent) in good standing.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in corporate finance, M&A or transaction advisory, including at director or equivalent level.
  • A demonstrable record of leading deal execution from mandate through to completion.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing independent expert's reports and valuations under ASIC guidance.
  • Strong command of valuation methodologies and financial modelling.
  • Fluency in AASB-aligned reporting and IFRS as applied to transactions.
  • Sound knowledge of ASX listing and disclosure obligations relevant to deals.
  • Proven ability to manage senior client relationships independently.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of developing engagement teams.
  • The right to work in Australia or eligibility for the relevant work rights.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to infrastructure and resources transactions in the Australian market.
  • A track record of independent expert's reports for listed-company transactions.
  • Relationships with private equity, corporate and intermediary networks in Sydney and nationally.
  • Sector specialism in areas such as energy, mining, consumer or financial services.
  • Experience contributing materially to practice business development.
  • Familiarity with cross-border deals involving the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.

Next Steps:

This opportunity is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and candidates holding or eligible for the relevant Australian work rights who match the above criteria. Please apply to receive prompt contact from an experienced and specialist accounting-firm recruitment consultant.
