Amazon Japan Legal is looking for an experienced, smart, and motivated attorney to support our rapidly growing operations and logistics businesses in Japan. The position reports to the operation and logistics legal lead in Japan.

Operation Legal team supports Amazon’s global logistics and transportation business that fulfills orders and delivers packages to customers. We advise on the infrastructure, warehouse operations, and technology that make deliveries happen; from placing inventory as close to customers as possible to reduce delivery times, to transporting items into and out of warehouses, to delivering packages to the customer’s doorstep. Operations Legal plays a key role in the innovation and technology that make Amazon’s products and services best in class.

The position will be responsible for supporting Amazon’s rapidly growing operations and logistics business in Japan, including new and innovative businesses and services. You will serve as the primary lawyer responsible for counseling the business on a broad range of commercial, regulatory and compliance matters for all operations and logistics matters in Japan. You will work directly with the business, serving as a counsel on compliance challenges arising from the rapidly evolving regulatory environment; advising on strategic deals and on the launch of new products and services; negotiating, structuring and drafting complex commercial transactions; coordinating with public policy and engaging with regulators to influence pending legislation and rule-making and in response to regulatory inquiries; advising on compliance requirements and assisting the business in designing and implementing risk-tested and scalable compliance.

This position will be based in Amazon Japan’s Meguro office.

Basic Qualifications


- Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Japan or other jurisdiction.
- Approximately 5+ years of legal experience (with several years of experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation).
- Native Level Japanese and Business Level English (have ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in Japanese and English.)

- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience managing projects and working independently
- The successful candidate must be proactive, enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
