Job Description

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented export controls lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and more.

We are seeking an export controls attorney to join our international trade legal team.

Key job responsibilities
- Provide counsel on export laws and new technology such as AI, quantum, and semiconductors;
- Support regulatory engagements;
- Collaborate globally to develop innovative international trade compliance solutions; and
- Research and stay up to date on forthcoming export control laws and enforcement trends.

A day in the life
The role involves working directly with business units and cross-functional teams across AWS and other parts of Amazon. The successful candidate will provide strategic input on legal and business decisions, navigate complex regulatory environments, and develop problem solving solutions. This position plays a crucial role in supporting AWS globally and requires a talented and motivated individual capable of managing a broad range of matters, in a rapidly evolving business landscape.

About the team
This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is leading exciting and pioneering global initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Basic Qualifications


- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines, or experience in a fast-paced, high-tech company
- Experience effectively communicating complex concepts through written and verbal communication
- Knowledge of export control or strategic control laws
- Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience working proactively and independently, meeting deadlines, and delivering on projects and tasks
- Ability to research, analyze and summarize existing and forthcoming regulations while succinctly communicating business impact
- Ability to provide practical and business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment, even in ambiguous situations

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
