Job Description

The Manager, Corporate Risk & Insurance plays a vital role within the global Corporate Risk and Insurance team, focusing on minimizing the financial impact of accidental losses through effective claims management and risk identification. This position involves reviewing contracts for insurance-related language, supporting the insurance procurement process, and collaborating with various stakeholders, including brokers and insurers.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in commercial insurance claims and risk management, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and communication. They will be adept at managing relationships with third-party adjusters and providing guidance to business units on claims processes, ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance with corporate policies.

Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite)

Contract Length: 18 months

Hours: 9 AM - 5 PM

T4: $35 / IC $40

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the settlement of losses for all insurance programs, including Auto, CGL, and US Workers Compensation, ensuring timely reporting to insurers and providing loss control advice.
  • Support subrogation and recovery decisions by liaising with legal teams and Lines of Business as necessary.
  • Manage relationships with third-party claims adjusters, ensuring the quality of service provided meets organizational standards.
  • Review and audit third-party adjuster files to ensure compliance with defined reporting requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on insurance contract language in vendor, lease, and customer agreements.
  • Contribute to the review and development of corporate policies and standards related to insurance and risk management.
  • Deliver responsive and professional service to internal and external customers across various insurance coverage and claims-related activities.
  • Support the Corporate Insurance department in all aspects of its functions as required.
  • Manage the relationship with third-party adjusters, including cost management and periodic service reviews.
  • Guide business units through the claims process in response to loss events, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the Corporate Risk and Insurance team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A university degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial insurance claims, risk management, or as a commercial insurance broker.
  • Completion or partial completion of the CIP/CRM designations is preferred.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in claims handling within Canada and the US.
  • Experience or knowledge of US Workers’ Compensation is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, claims management, and loss prevention strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance industry practices and risk management techniques.
  • Excellent communication, administration, negotiation, planning, and leadership skills.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of claims management systems and financial analysis tools.

PREFERRED

  • Experience in the insurance industry, particularly in risk management and claims handling.
  • Familiarity with US Workers’ Compensation regulations and practices.
