Job Description

Core Tooling Engineer is a dynamic role supporting all facets of Powertrain machining: Engine, Transmission, Gears and E-motor components. In this role you will be responsible for creating and maintaining cutting tool standards, resolving current model tooling/process in-plant problems and supporting new model programs as tooling expert for new processes.

  • Develop new specifications, standards, procedures and guidelines for all new tooling processes. Drive common practices and insure understanding through teaching modules and program support.
  • Create/Update/Maintain all tooling specifications, standards, procedures and guidelines.
  • Conduct standard machineability testing for work materials, tools and processes.
  • Evaluate and implement new tooling technologies.
  • Flexibility to quickly pivot to support current production and/or new model tooling and/or process issues as needed: Define and lead short and long term updates for identified root cause. Work directly with cutting tool supply base for resolution/optional tooling/trials. Concisely communicate results and next steps.
  • Lead the development of new tool types, designs and processes for features not currently a part of the established library, or experience base within PTME.
  • Implement standard tool management system in all new Powertrain Plants.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the Process Engineering teams in the approval of existing tool types, designs and processes.
  • Update/Maintain BoP costs for tooling and tool management facilities to be used by the Process Engineering teams during cost study preparation.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to Process Engineering teams in the development of cost studies. Complete program studies estimating cutting tool needs, related costs, and developing new cost models for inclusion in the BoP for new processes/technologies.
  • Provide tooling information and other details in support of 1295 generation by third party.
  • Conduct ergonomic analysis to support tool management activities for new facilities and develop/document standards as needed.
  • Update/Maintain GESWP for Tooling and Tool Management facilities.
  • Liaise with PTO plants during the launch of new manufacturing processes resolving technical issues as they arise.
  • Support Process Engineering teams relative to their deliverables.
  • BSc, Engineering discipline or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Professional experience within the Automotive Manufacturing industry, specifically focused on metal cutting/machining/processing of Powertrain components.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to concisely share problem statements, actions and results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a diverse team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure manufacturing environments and deliver results within tight timing constraints.
  • Be self-motivated and capable of managing complex tasks with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%. Position will be based out of Dearborn, Michigan but requires travel to North American Powertrain facilities.

This position is a salary grade 7-8 and ranges from $84,480-162,120.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
