The Associate 2 is a processing-focused role within the Check Operations department, responsible for executing daily check exception review accurately and efficiently while adhering to established procedures and controls. This role supports exception handling and fraud awareness by identifying issues and escalating concerns but does not independently resolve complex cases. The Associate 2 works under defined guidance and closely with Senior Associates, Officers, and team leads to ensure high-quality operational outcomes in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Check Processing Execution

• Perform high-volume daily check processing activities, including posting, returns, adjustments, and routine exception handling.

• Complete assigned processing tasks accurately and within established service-level and deadline expectations.

• Follow documented procedures to ensure consistency, completeness, and control adherence.

• Maintain productivity and quality standards in a production-driven environment.

Exception Handling & Fraud Awareness

• Review routine check exceptions and identify discrepancies, missing information, or processing errors.

• Recognize basic fraud indicators such as duplicate presentments, unusual item activity, or altered items.

• Escalate suspicious activity, processing errors, or unclear exceptions to Senior Associates or Officers in accordance with established escalation procedures.

• Support fraud and exception investigations by providing requested documentation and research.

Operational Controls & Risk Support

• Execute all processing activities in strict compliance with established controls, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of work to minimize rework, errors, and risk exposure.

• Identify potential processing errors or control concerns and escalate promptly.

• Support audit, risk, and control reviews by providing accurate data and documentation when requested. • Act with urgency when issues may impact financial loss, client experience, or operational integrity.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with peers, Senior Associates, and team leads to support workflow completion and issue resolution. • Communicate clearly and professionally regarding processing status, questions, or issues. Accept feedback and coaching to improve performance, quality, and technical knowledge.

Process Awareness & Change Support

• Follow updated procedures related to system changes, enhancements, or new products. • Participate in training and knowledge-sharing activities as required. • Provide feedback on recurring processing issues or inefficiencies observed during daily execution.

Associate 2–Level Expectations

• Performs work under clearly defined procedures and supervision.

• Focuses primarily on transactional processing and routine exception handling.

• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and consistency.

• Escalates questions, errors, and risks appropriately.

• Meets productivity, quality, and timeliness expectations.
