In this role based in Madrid (Spain), you will lead Cloud and Automation for Core in Telefónica Group within the GCTIO organization. Your primary responsibility will be to drive the definition, selection, implementation, and evolution of automation for core technologies leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as to ensure that the cloud infrastructure meets the requirements from core. All in close coordination with Telefónica’s operating businesses and key stakeholders.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and deep technical expertise to steer the evolution of the automation of the core network.

You will be responsible for maximizing the value of automation for core to support Telefónica’s core platforms and monetization objectives, leveraging AI, intent-based operations, and advanced network programmability.

As part of Network Cloud Transformation team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of automation for the core network platforms ensuring a consistent and efficient strategy across Telefonica Group, fostering innovation and operational efficiency.

What Will be your mission? 🎯

Lead Cloud and Core Automation strategy across the Telefónica Group, driving the adoption of cloud-native technologies, advanced automation, and Artificial Intelligence capabilities to optimize network operations, enable the evolution of core platforms, and accelerate the transition towards autonomous networks.

What capabilities are we looking for? 🔎

Experience & Technical Expertise

• 5+ years of experience in network automation, cloud-native technologies, or related areas within the telecommunications industry.
• Strong hands-on experience with network automation frameworks and methodologies, including CI/CD/CT, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Solid knowledge of container-based technologies and orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Experience defining acceptance test plans (ATPs), validation strategies, and executing tests in lab environments.
• Experience in AI and Agentic AI in order to build and execute projects to meet AI for network and network for AI capabilities within packet core domain.

Additional Knowledge Considered Valuable

• Understanding of public cloud architectures and services across major cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and their application to network analytics, prediction, optimization, and autonomous operations.
• Good understanding of 4G/5G Core network architectures, protocols, and platforms.

Soft Skills

• Leadership capabilities to drive projects and teams towards objectives.
• Team work in multi-cultural environment.
• Fluent in Spanish and English.

How will you contribute with your capabilities to the purpose of the role? 💼

• Contribute to the definition and evolution of the automation strategy for Core Networks across the Telefónica Group.
• Drive the adoption of automation frameworks, including CI/CD/CT pipelines and In-Service Software Upgrades (ISSU), across Telefónica’s operating businesses, helping accelerate the journey towards Autonomous Networks.
• Work closely with Core Platform teams to promote the adoption of Intent-Based Operations, closed-loop automation, and Agentic AI assistants to improve operational efficiency and network reliability.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure and Cloud teams to ensure that cloud platforms and infrastructure capabilities meet the performance, scalability, and resilience requirements of core network workloads.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud-native network, automation, and AI, helping identify opportunities to enhance Telefónica’s network capabilities.
• Engage with operating businesses, technology partners, and vendors to share best practices, align on technical approaches, and support network transformation initiatives across the Group.
