ST&S Finance & Risk provides financial stewardship, analysis, control and business support to Supply, Trading & Shipping. The Core Finance team delivers scalable products and services supporting Finance business partners and specialist functions, including management information, valuation support, data and reporting, new activity delivery and continuous improvement. The role reports to the Core Finance Lead and works across business and technology centre locations and cross-functional teams.
The Core Finance Analyst independently delivers assigned Core Finance activities with accuracy, control and sound judgement. As part of an agile pool of Core Finance talent, the role may flex across products, services, portfolios or initiatives in response to business priorities and to support individual development. The role produces and explains management information and performance analysis, completes valuation review activities, supports new activity implementation, and drives defined improvement initiatives.
Job Functional Knowledge: Strong practical knowledge of financial analysis, management information, valuation processes, data controls, new activity delivery and business improvement in a complex trading or supply environment. Understands valuation inputs, curves, models, methodologies, data lineage and control evidence, together with the external management accounting data requirements affected by valuation outputs. Working knowledge of project delivery, process design, change management, automation and continuous improvement, with the ability to operate effectively across Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery interfaces.
Business Expertise: Good understanding of ST&S or a comparable commodity trading and supply business, including how transactions, market data, valuation methods, systems and operational events affect management information and external management accounting. Understands the roles of the Front Office, Commercial Finance, Controllership, Finance & Risk Advisory, technology and service providers, and works effectively across these interfaces to support consistent, high-quality Core Finance delivery
Leadership: Provides leadership through technical expertise, ownership and coordination rather than formal people management. Plans and coordinates assigned deliverables, reviews outputs where delegated, shares knowledge and supports less experienced colleagues. Influences project and agile delivery teams within defined scope and helps create clarity during process and technology change.
Problem Solving :Applies independent judgement to valuation, data, reporting, process and delivery issues within established frameworks, often under tight deadlines. Investigates movements and exceptions, identifies root causes, assesses impacts and recommends practical actions. Escalates matters requiring broader judgement, policy interpretation or material business decisions to the Core Finance Lead, Controllership, Finance & Risk Advisory or relevant specialist risk function.
Nature and Area of Impact: Accountable for the quality, timeliness and control of assigned Core Finance products, services and change deliverables. The role supports reliable management information, well-evidenced valuations for external management accounting, successful implementation of new commercial activity and efficient improvement in execution. It improves efficiency, standardisation and capability across assigned areas of ST&S Finance & Risk
Interpersonal skills: Builds effective relationships across Finance, commercial, technology and service-delivery teams. Communicates's valuation, data and process matters clearly, raises issues early and works cumulatively to resolve them. Facilitates working sessions, manages competing priorities and maintains a practical, controlled and delivery-focused approach.
