Base pay for this position will be $55,913.20
The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.
This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, subject to change

The CORA Release Technician manages and processes requests for public records under the guidelines of the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA), ensuring that all disclosures comply with federal, state, and local laws, and organizational regulations. This role acts as a gatekeeper for sensitive information, maintaining transparency while protecting privacy.
Examples of duties
- Responds to requestors under Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures. Investigates, analyzes, and prepares responsive records or denials under Colorado State Statute.
- Coordinates with departments to locate, retrieve, and compile responsive documents. Downloads video for evidence, legal, and CORA requests.
- Apply redactions where required, in accordance with legal exemptions, and maintain exemption logs.
- Assist with releases of records under Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) Law as needed.
- Remain current on best practices for open records management, including a full understanding of CORA and CCJRA.
- Communicate with requesters to clarify needs, provide status updates, and explain legal requirements. Builds and fosters genuine professional rapport with records requestors, including members of the media, law firms, and government transparency activists.
- Calculate and assess fees for record copies and searches, following established fee schedules.
- Provides back-up support to Records Technicians and Customer Service Representatives as needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
- Must possess excellent customer service, organizational, planning, and administration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to type 40 words per minute (WPM) and enter data accurately.
- Ability to respond in a flexible manner and reprioritize as situations change.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion of sensitive records and information required.
- Ability to read and interpret state statutes.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, and telephone.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, El Paso County employees, outside agencies, vendors, and the public.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Two years’ administrative experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, including the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA).
- Experience with OneDrive, Office 365 and AdobePro.
- Experience with records release under CORA and CCJRA.
Licenses/Certificates
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess and maintain NCIC/CCIC certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, drug screen, and typing test for speed and accuracy.
