Purpose of Job:
The Copy Editor, Brand Standards ensures all Interstate Batteries creative communications are accurate, consistent, and aligned with the company's voice and brand positioning. As a member of the in-house creative agency, this critical role provides cross-functional support to design, communications, project management, print, digital, sponsorships, and event management teams, while upholding brand voice and style standards.
Job Components:
Ensures consistency and accuracy by upholding Interstate Batteries’ style standards, as well as other relevant guidelines, and assists in educating Team Members about these standards.
Consistently works to improve the quality of copy development and execution, paying close attention to strategic accuracy and honoring brand personality (unique style)
Partners with 3rd party vendor to manage all foreign translations for print. Collaborates with the different departments to request and obtain translations for use in IB collateral and Point of Purchase (POP).
Works closely with the Creative Team to ensure mutual integrity of the idea and strategy.
Maintains knowledge of marketing-communication and advertising trends. Knows Interstate Batteries product lines, business channels, and major legal and compliance guidelines.
Proofreads battery labels with an eye for international packaging compliance
Communicates all edits and comments effectively to colleagues and has a strong understanding of SEO.
Partners with the Legal department to keep an updated list of all Interstate Batteries registered and service-marked trade names.
Ensures procedures are followed. Serves as an effective and valued Team Member.
Proofreads for grammar and usage and maintains Interstate’s communications style guide.
Assists in keeping communication terminology guidelines, conventions, and server files current and up to date.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in English, Journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of experience as an Editor in a high-volume Communications department or advertising agency.
Working knowledge of intellectual property and brand asset management.
Excellent editing, proofreading, attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to function with a considerable degree of independence. Resourceful; able to problem solve effectively.
Proven ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage a high volume of work simultaneously.
Strong communication skills are a must. Exceptional listener. Has excellent, well-rounded vocabulary.
Excellent command of Interstate Batteries’ style, English grammar, and Associated Press style rules.
Familiar with production requirements associated with print, web, and video.
Familiar with targeted media, understanding strengths/weaknesses of each medium.
Bilingual French or Spanish a plus.
Scope Data:
Reviews copy for editing on all printed, web, and video projects.
Effective cross-functional relationship building across the enterprise and at all levels.

Work Environment:
Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
