Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Life and Development, the Coordinator will implement NCAA and Big West student-athlete development programming and initiatives focused on key areas including professional development, career development, self-discovery initiatives, leadership development, life-skills, and wellness education for student athletes based on their unique needs.
In consultation with Athletics Senior Women's Administrator, the incumbent will help develop and implement programming and events including community service, civic engagement, and campus involvement efforts to engage student athletes, promote belonging, and support department efforts. The person will also serve as a liaison between Athletics and Student Affairs, and other Divisions and departments across campus to collaborate and coordinate services in support of the needs of student-athletes. The coordinator will work closely with the Bickerstaff Athletic Center (BAC) and the Associate Athletics Director (AD) of Student-Athlete Health & Wellness to ensure the messaging and programming is coordinated and supported in the best interest of student-athletes. The incumbent will incorporate assessments of these efforts including the development of student learning outcomes, measures of program effectiveness, and student athlete engagement.
This position provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. The position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

The ideal candidate is well versed in counseling techniques and capable of addressing sensitive, complex issues within the student-athlete population, with demonstrated experience working in an athletic department and a university setting supporting student-athletes. They are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while remaining self-directed, energetic, and strongly motivated. The candidate possesses excellent oral and written communication skills and can effectively engage with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community, demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and student development. They have a solid understanding of student and student-athlete development theories and the ability to translate these into meaningful leadership development opportunities and co-curricular programming. Additionally, the candidate will actively advance the Department of Athletics and the University’s goals related to diversity, gender equity, and Title IX compliance, while fostering a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment for all. They must also maintain knowledge of and compliance with NCAA and Big West Conference rules, ensuring that any concerns or violations are appropriately reported.

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
• Master's in counseling, student personnel or other related social sciences preferred.

Long Beach State Athletics is committed to following NCAA, Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rules and regulations. Therefore, the incumbent is required to maintain a working knowledge of these rules and regulations.
This position serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and Executive Order 1107. Incumbent is required to promptly report allegations of Clery qualifying crimes that occur within a campus’ Clery geography.
