
Job Profile Summary
Under the limited supervision of the Senior Director of Student Recreation Activities, the Recreation Coordinator assists in the coordination, implementation, and daily operation of district-wide intramural sports, sport clubs, recreational programming, and student engagement initiatives across Broward College campuses.
This position provides administrative, operational, and programmatic support for BC REC through the execution of intramural leagues, sport club development, recreational events, facility coordination, student staff support, equipment oversight, and participant engagement efforts. The Recreation Coordinator works closely with the Senior Director to support the growth and success of Broward College’s recreation initiatives while ensuring programs are effectively implemented in alignment with departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
This role primarily serves to assist with program delivery, logistics, student leadership development, and sport club operations while helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging recreational environment for students across the Broward College system.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree required
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Minimum Experience/Training
Four years of experience in recreation, intramural sports, sport clubs, student activities, campus programming, or related fields preferred
Experience with event coordination, recreational programming, student development, or club sports administration strongly preferred
Essential Functions
Assist the Senior Director in the planning, coordination, and implementation of district-wide intramural sports, sport clubs, and recreational programs, activities, and events.
Assist with the administration and daily operation of intramural leagues, tournaments, sport club activities, recreational programming, and special events across multiple campuses.
Support the development, organization, and oversight of sport clubs by assisting student leaders with operational procedures, scheduling, compliance, and program support.
Assist with participant recruitment, communication, and engagement efforts while ensuring adherence to college policies and procedures.
Support promotional efforts, marketing initiatives, and outreach strategies to increase student awareness and participation in BC REC programs and sport clubs.
Assist with facility scheduling, equipment coordination, travel logistics, and staffing support for recreational programs and sport club activities.
Assist in the recruitment, scheduling, training, and supervision of student employees, referees, officials, club participants, and part-time personnel.
Provide support for student leadership development through sport club advising, staff mentoring, and recreational programming initiatives.
Assist with maintaining safe recreational environments by supporting risk management procedures, facility readiness, travel oversight, and equipment maintenance.
Collect participation data and assist with program evaluation, reporting, and assessment efforts.
Collaborate with campus departments and Student Life staff to assist in program implementation across all campuses.
Perform related duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Student Recreation Activities.
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel regularly between Broward College campuses to support district-wide programming, sport clubs, and events
Travel to other colleges, conferences, and sports facilities may be required
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to support recreational events, club activities, and student programs in indoor and outdoor settings
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Fully proficient in professional and functional standards and protocols of position
General understanding of College’s structure, policies and practices, and the impact on own area
Ability to contribute in multiple related areas within the function
Expertise in understanding and following project plans, including the coordination of multiple resources and activities
Understanding of and ability to coordinate interdependencies of work within the area and of resources from outside the area
Ability to exchange information with individuals and collaborate and colleagues within the College as well as presentation skills
Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e. Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems spec
