About the role:

Reporting to the Manager, Sustainable Development Projects, the Project Coordinator will support the delivery and financial control for a portfolio of 40+ environmental projects by managing portfolio-level cost forecasting, budgeting and reporting, and by promoting consistent project controls, tools and processes. The role partners closely with Project Managers, Project Directors and Finance to improve cost performance, reporting accuracy and project delivery across the portfolio.

In this role, you will support improvements to cost management tools and processes, including earned value management, estimating standards, and risk-based analysis techniques (e.g., Monte Carlo). The position may provide project controls support for key projects and will identify opportunities to improve, automate, or integrate technology to enhance team efficiency and accuracy.

Success in this role requires a highly organized, methodical and detail-oriented individual with excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills — able to present financial insights simply to non-finance audiences. The individual must demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, comfortable working under deadlines and adapting to shifting priorities.

Join us in one of our breathtaking locations — the Elk Valley Resources area, or Calgary, AB. With a compressed work week and alternating Fridays off, come experience what true work-life balance is all about!

Benefits:

  • Two Annual Bonus Plans
  • Comprehensive Benefits Plan
  • Retirement Package
  • Health Lifestyle Account

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Facilitate monthly forecast reviews, summarizing and communicating portfolio level variances to departmental leadership
  • Coordinate and consolidate project updates to track and report on milestones, deliverables, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Support project estimating and assist with inputs for annual business planning and budgeting
  • Provide insight and productively challenge project forecasts and estimates to support better decision-making, improve cost discipline, and maintain alignment with commercial goals and business values
  • Support the team through SAP implementation, helping with process alignment, system uptake, and integrating cost management practices into the new system
  • Support project teams with tools and training to accurately manage, track, and report project costs in the cost management system, including monthly invoice reconciliation and daily LEM (Labour, Equipment & Materials) tracking
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, including developing and maintaining cost‑tracking tools and dashboards, and providing training on these tools (including future systems such as SAP)
  • Support project funding requests, commitment authorizations, and procurement activities
  • Collaborate with Project Accounting, Business Unit Finance, Accounts Payable, site administration, and external vendors throughout the project lifecycle
  • Train and mentor project teams on cost control, forecasting, and communicating variances

Requirements:

    • Degree in Engineering, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, and/or PMI certification (PMP, PgMP, PfMP)
    • Minimum five years’ experience in finance, accounting, project cost controls, and project management, preferably within a mining or manufacturing environment
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and project performance data, including cost forecasting, variance analysis, and estimating
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for diverse technical and non‑technical audiences
    • Excellent digital proficiency, particularly in advanced Excel, Power BI and data visualization
    • Experience delivering training or capacity‑building sessions to multidisciplinary teams, particularly in financial literacy or cost management topics
    • Familiarity with environmental projects and associated provincial and federal regulatory approvals processes considered an asset.
    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
