Job Description

Department: Student Affairs

Sub department: Advising, Retention & Counseling Center

Type of Appointment: Full time - Regular

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' basic needs, including food insecurity, housing instability, transportation, childcare, financial hardship, and other barriers affecting academic success. Work closely with counselors and the Wellness Center. Create a sense of belonging environment. Track and submit monthly reports to direct supervisor.
Meet individually with students to assess needs and develop individualized resource and retention plans. Knowledge and adherence of FERPA and case management.

Plan, organize, and coordinate workshops, seminars, and educational programs and assist students with benefit eligibility screenings for local, state, and federal assistance programs.


Develop, establish, and maintain collaborative partnerships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, healthcare providers, workforce organizations, and community service providers. Perform other duties, tasks, and assignments as required to support the Student Affairs division.

Required Education Bachelor’s degree of Social Work or equivalent from an accredited university or institution.

Required Experience Experience working with large client population strongly preferred. Experience with a commitment to working college students. Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Education Master’s degree of Social Work or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Experience Training in social work and/or counseling required. Experience with and commitment to working with various populations. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent time management, organizational and computer software skills. Entrepreneurial spirit. Strong commitment to the shared mission of Delgado Community College.
