Job Description

The Student Involvement and Traditions (SIT) Office at Carnegie Mellon University consists of experienced professionals with an outstanding ability to: cultivate relevant, one-to-one mentoring relationships with exceptional students; deeply influence the growth and development of the leaders of tomorrow; craft unique experiences building on the talents of a diverse, multifaceted community; and contribute to our Student Affairs Division whose cornerstone is a deep, sustained dedication to the ongoing care of its students.

We are searching for a Coordinator to join our dynamic team. Engaging with students as they interact with our department, you will serve as a primary point of contact and specialist in many of our largest campus traditions, including Scotty Saturday, The FAIR, and Senior Week. Additionally, you will support

our student governance structure through advising, training & development, and supervision as they shape and advocate for the student experience at CMU.

We are seeking candidates who are excited to work directly with students, and to support them as they practice and develop confidence in their skills. The Coordinator must thrive in a fast-paced environment and strive to provide quality support to diverse students, colleagues, and external constituents.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Provide advisement, professional development, and support to the student governance structure specifically focusing on Undergraduate Student Senate and all related committees, the elections board, and the Student Leader Council.

  • Supervise select group of student government student employees including the Chief of Staff, Constitutional Advisor, and technical team.

  • Advise the student programming board, the Activities Board (AB), which executes a large, yearly slate of concerts, speakers and special events.

  • Advise AB Tech, a student organization offering student-run technical services to campus partners including basic speaker set ups, video streaming, and concert production.

  • Coordinate campus-wide traditions including, but not limited to, THE FAIR, Scotty Saturday, Winter Welcome, Senior Week. Serve as a budget manager for >$50,000 earmarked for these campus traditions.

  • Support the event advisement program through individual event advising in partnership with the Assistant Director and Graduate Assistant.

  • Provide general ad hoc advisory support to our 350+ student organizations on campus.

  • Other duties as assigned

You should demonstrate:

  • Proven track record to champion an innovative and collaborative work environment

  • Proven problem solving and reasoning skills, analytical skills, and oral, written, and interpersonal and intercultural communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs or related field required

  • 1-3 years of related experience in a student affairs, or event planning setting required

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
