PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Director of Recreation, the Coordinator of Recreational Sports administers the recreational sports programs and manages the daily operations of the Intramural Sports and Sports Club programs. The Coordinator will assist the Director with the fiscal management, facility management, organizational development and the day-to-day operations of the recreational sports programs. The coordinator will have oversight of the university’s Intramural Sports and Sports Club programs including: risk management, policy and procedure development, scheduling and event planning, personnel supervision and training, marketing and promotions, programming, strategic planning, and program assessment. The incumbent plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates programs and services that promote the educational and social development of students outside the classroom.

Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Recreation, Education, Higher Education, or related field. Two or more years post-graduate experience of program coordination/development experience at the collegiate-level that includes student leadership development, student recreation, intramural sports, sports clubs, activities programming and recreation facilities management supervision, budget development and fiscal management.
Experience supervising student, administrative support and professional staff. Demonstrated success in creating a team environment with a strong student/customer service orientation. Excellent human relations and strong conflict resolution skills. Experience in assessment of programs and activities with a focus on learning outcomes. demonstrated expertise in identifying student needs and developing creative programs and services to meet these needs; excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, facilitation, communication and presentation skills; project management expertise.
Working knowledge of the specific objectives of Student Activities and Leadership Development and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; develop records management systems; collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; maintain high professional standards; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with various campus constituents in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.
Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent <student/finance> information system; Microsoft Office Professional; Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Forms, etc.); 25Live; intranet drives; and internet browsers.
