The Coordinator of Military Affiliated Supports and Services is responsible for overseeing, executing, and managing all VA educational benefits processes and compliance requirements at Towson University. In addition, this position supports the day-to-day operations and mission of the Military & Veterans Center.
Process, administer, certify/re-certify and maintain records for approximately 800 military-affiliated students, according to VA processes, regulations, compliance mandates, and procedures.
Operates as chief administrator of the AI Portal for Army Federal Tuition Assistance Program- including Catalog Technician, Program Technician.
Oversee and responsible for regular programmatic overview, internal review, and quality control of all VA and DoD benefits processes.
Responsible for yearly federal compliance review and other external reviews as appropriate or required.
Lead initiatives and processes to ensure maximization of benefits and financial aid opportunities; tailor advisement for each military-connected student as needed.
Serve as the direct liaison in supporting the Student and University Billing Office, Registrar’s Office, Admissions Office, and Financial Aid Office.
Direct general administrative authority and responsibility for the processes and operations of the Military & Veterans Center, including paying vendors, Stratus management, other financial processes, events and conferences services organization, internal forms, hospitality and catering needs, organizing travel requests and authorizations, licensing and branding needs, marketing materials purchases, etc.
Administer direct support of the VA Work Study program under the leadership of the Assistant Director; includes overseeing training and continued development of High Impact Practices for 8-12 students per semester who are participating in VA Work Study program; record keeping, contracts and scheduling on behalf of MVC, which includes assuming the role of liaison to Dept. of Veteran Affairs regarding submissions of timesheets, payroll information, and auditing for compliance
Support and participate in transfer fairs and related events, Orientation events, and other recruitment events and opportunities in collaboration with the Office of Admissions and New Student and Family Programs
Lead partnerships and collaborate with Career Center, StarTUp, selected colleges, and departments, on career-related events, opportunities, and initiatives for military-connected students. Conduct regular educational outreach and promotion concerning the above.
Represent in institutional, statewide, and national organizations, commissions, and committees as assigned. These include the TU Staff Development Committee, the TU Student Leadership Committee, the Maryland College Collaboration for Student Veterans Commission, and potentially roles at the National Association of Veterans Programs Administrators or the Association of Veterans Certifying Officials.
Serves in an on-call capacity in providing immediate response to student distress/crisis. Leads the Military & Veterans Center in absence of Assistant Director and Director.
The work schedule for this position may include some evenings and weekends as needed.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, which can include roles in veterans’ services offices in higher education and/or federal service in the Armed Forces of the United States at time of hire; or 60 college credits and four years of related experience, which can include roles in veterans’ services offices in higher education and/or federal service in the Armed Forces of the United States at time of hire.
Annual VA School Certifying Official Certification
Ability to learn software systems: Enrollment Manager (VA Benefits); AI Portal (Army FTA); Perceptive Content (Recordkeeping); Tungsten (Chapter 31 VRE); and PeopleSoft Technology (enrollment, billing, etc.)
Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Outlook)
Knowledge of admissions, enrollment, advising, and billing practices
Knowledge of policies and regulations regarding the certification of VA Education Benefits
