The Coordinator of College Readiness – Literacy provides leadership, coordination, and continuous improvement of the College’s developmental reading and writing initiatives to support student readiness, persistence, and progression into college-level coursework.
The Coordinator collaborates with faculty, deans, advising, and academic support services to design and implement integrated literacy instruction, aligned curriculum, and targeted academic supports. The Coordinator is responsible for advancing evidence-based instructional practices, monitoring program effectiveness through data, and ensuring a coordinated student experience from placement through registration in college-level English. This is a twelve-month, full-time administrative appointment reporting to the Director, Developmental Education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Coordination
Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of developmental reading and writing programs, including accelerated and integrated literacy models
Coordinate day-to-day operations of literacy initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals for retention, persistence, and completion
Collaborate with the Director of Developmental Education to establish program priorities, assess effectiveness, and guide continuous improvement efforts
Contribute to the development of new courses, instructional models, and student support strategies that respond to evolving student and community needs
Curriculum Development
Lead the design, revision, and standardization of literacy-focused curriculum aligned with institutional outcomes and student success goals.
Oversee assessment of student learning and use data (success, retention, placement) to drive continuous curriculum improvement.
Collaborate with faculty and student support areas to integrate curriculum with advising, tutoring, and developmental education pathways.
Collaborate with AESL Coordinator to ensure placement and progress pathways are aligned.
Student Success and Academic Support
Advise and support students in the READ1/developmental education cohort, including guidance on placement, course sequencing, and academic pathways
Collaborate with advising, tutoring, intervention teams, and academic support services to ensure coordinated, proactive interventions for students
Counsel students as needed and recommend appropriate academic supports and instructional adjustments
Promote student engagement with academic support resources and skill development opportunities
Data Analysis, Assessment, and Reporting
Monitor and analyze student performance, placement, and progression data to evaluate program effectiveness
Maintain accurate program records and contribute to institutional reporting, assessment, and accreditation efforts
Use data to identify barriers to student success and recommend improvements to curriculum, placement, and support strategies
Participate in continuous improvement processes, including program review and outcomes assessment
Faculty Collaboration and Professional Development
Work collaboratively with faculty to support effective teaching practices and student-centered instruction
Partner with instructional design and professional development teams to develop discipline-specific training and resources
Facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration among faculty to share best practices and improve student outcomes
Operational and Administrative Responsibilities
Collaborate with Deans and academic departments on course scheduling to ensure access and efficient student pathways
Support coordination of placement, retesting, and progression practices in alignment with developmental education initiatives
Participate in institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives related to student success and developmental education
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in English, Reading or Literacy Education, or a closely related field
Reading Specialist Certification
Experience supporting students with varying levels of academic preparation using effective, inclusive instructional strategies in reading and writing
Demonstrated experience teaching developmental-level reading and/or writing in a college setting
Knowledge of evidence-based practices that support accelerated skill development and progression into college-level coursework
Experience collaborating with faculty and academic support services to improve student learning and course completion
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in program coordination, curriculum development, or academic program administration
Experience analyzing student success data to inform program improvement
Familiarity with integrated or accelerated developmental education models
Experience collaborating across decentralized teams, with the ability to coordinate efforts across academic and student support units to achieve shared outcomes
Salary Range $50,618 - $64,630 (commensurate with experience)
