Job Description Summary
Contributes to the success of Transitional Studies by developing, coordinating, and evaluating the High School Equivalency Preparation Program, supporting students’ academic progress from Adult Basic Education skills through Adult Secondary Education and transition to postsecondary education, occupational training, and employment. Provides leadership for High School Equivalency Preparation classes in English and Spanish. Hires, supervises, and supports the High School Programs Navigator and adjunct faculty; monitors instructional quality and compliance with grant and college requirements; provides guidance to students regarding educational planning and support service needs; and collaborates with the Director, Coordinators, and community partners to promote student success and the overall effectiveness of the department.
Duties
1. Coordinates the High School Equivalency ( HSE) Preparation Program, including English and Spanish instructional offerings, to ensure high-quality, accessible educational opportunities for adult learners. Oversees program planning, orientation, online presence, course and instructional site development, evaluation of program offerings, the scheduling, staffing, promotion, and continuous improvement of classes from Adult Basic Education through Adult Secondary Education. Hires, trains, supervises, supports, and evaluates faculty.
2. Provides guidance to students regarding educational plans, class placement, readiness for testing, academic progress, classroom expectations, and support service needs to promote student success and persistence.
3. Evaluates class and program effectiveness through data analysis, student outcomes, and faculty feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and celebrate program successes.
4. Coordinates accurate and timely recordkeeping for High School Equivalency Preparation classes, students, and faculty in collaboration with the Coordinator of Data Management and the High School Programs Navigator to ensure compliance with college and grant requirements.
5. Develops purchasing recommendations and coordinates expenditures for instructional materials, software, assessments, and classroom supplies in collaboration with the Director and Program Operations Specialist. Maintains budget tracking for instructional salary costs and assists the Director with budget planning and projections.
6. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
7. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)
1. Bachelor’s degree
2. One year of full-time or equivalent teaching experience.
3. One year of full-time or equivalent experience coordinating educational programs, instructional activities or student support services.
4. One year of full-time or equivalent work experience in an adult education, student services, workforce development, or related setting.
5. Experience working directly with multilingual learners in a teaching, advising, enrollment, student services or program support role.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s degree
2. Experience supporting student retention, persistence, transitions, or pathway navigation in an educational or workforce development setting.
3. Work experience with Adult Education, Basic Skills or College & Career Readiness programs in the North Carolina Community College System.
4. One year of full-time or equivalent supervisory or management experience.
5.Work experience with curriculum development and instructional design.
