Job Description

Island Gold District is located near Dubreuilville in Northwestern Ontario and is an underground and open pit gold mine operation. With the company's focus on this flagship operation, there are transformational development plans at Island Gold to position the mine for future growth by unlocking the value of the Resource extension at depth. This is a very exciting time in the mine life of Island Gold and with that we are searching for highly motivated and committed people to join our team!

Roles Responsibilities:

Regulatory/Legislative Compliance

  • Ensure all scopes of work on the phase 3+ project follow the occupational health and safety act, construction/mining regulations, and company policies/procedures
  • Monitor changes in legislation and update team members/contractors accordingly

Site Inspections, focus audits, formal/informal observations

  • Conduct weekly site inspections, observations and focus audits
  • Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Monitor contractors/subcontractors to ensure compliance (stop & correct)
  • Track corrective actions and follow up to closure
  • 80/20 field/office split

Training & Safety Communication

  • Coordinate safety training (WHMIS, Working at Heights, PPE, etc.)
  • Deliver site specific orientation for new workers
  • Support toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement

Incident Reporting & Investigation

  • Assist or lead incident and near-miss investigations
  • Perform root cause analysis/5 Whys
  • Track trends and recommend prevention strategies
  • Confirm proper WSIB/regulatory reporting

Documentation & Record Management

  • Maintain safety records:
    • Training records
    • Inspection logs
    • Incident reports
    • Weekly Management walks
    • Focus audits

Culture & Continuous Improvement

  • Promote proactive safety culture.
  • Analyze trends and recommend improvements.
  • Support return-to-work and injury management programs.
  • Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or Certificate Program or experience in Health and Safety or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Strong organization skills with ability to multitask and accomplish tasks, projects and goals

  • Self-motivated and a self-starter
  • Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills
  • Professional attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with safety management systems (MoC, JHA, SOPs, Policies, programs)
  • Hold a valid driver's license.

Salary Range - $74,550 - 122,350 CAD
