The Coordinator of Interpretive Services ensures effective communication with deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing faculty, staff, and visitors to Towson University. As a certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, the Coordinator will serve as an on-campus interpreter (voice to sign and sign to voice) on an as-needed basis during regular business hours with some occasional evening and weekend events. In addition, the Coordinator will consult with Deaf faculty/staff on what interpretive or support services are necessary and work with vendors to fulfill interpreting, transcription, and captioning requests. This position works collaboratively with various departments on campus, including the Deaf Studies department/College of Liberal Arts, Office of Inclusion & Institutional Equity, and Admissions, among others, to support and continue to enhance the quality of interpreting services on campus.
The work hours for this position may include occasional evenings and weekends.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Five years of interpreting experience
RID, NAD IV and above or BEI certification in good standing (please include certification on your application)
Adheres to RID’s Code of Professional Conduct
Excellent ASL to English and English to ASL interpreting skills
Ability to render the message faithfully and accurately with the appropriate register
Ability to work effectively with a team interpreter and the Deaf Studies faculty
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience interpreting in higher education settings
Experience working with Deaf professionals
