Overall Job Purpose
The Maintenance Coordinator for the Drills section will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective and efficient execution of maintenance activities on drilling equipment. This role involves planning, coordinating, and overseeing maintenance tasks, ensuring that all activities comply with OEM specifications, quality standards, and safety procedures. Additionally, the role will include budget management and analysis to optimize maintenance operations and reduce costs while maintaining equipment reliability.
Specific Job Responsibility
The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include:
- Work with the planners to develop and coordinate detailed maintenance schedules for drill equipment to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
- Ensure all work execution packages, including work instructions, inspection, and test plans (ITP), are developed in accordance with OEM specifications.
- Ensuring service sheets are treated as live documents. Work with the reliability team to ensure that service sheets are always updated to detect/prevent the failure modes which are responsible for breakdowns.
- Coordinate with technical advisors, supervisors, mechanics, and OEM contractors to ensure that all required tools, materials, and resources are available prior to commencing any maintenance task.
- Assist Technical Advisors & Supervisors with troubleshooting as per the Triggered Actions Response plan when a breakdown lasts longer than 2 hours.
- Ensure component major component failures & Breakdowns which last more than 4 hours have a failure report which identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Oversee adherence to the scope of work, quality standards, and timelines for mechanical and electrical maintenance on drill equipment.
- Participate in kick off, work and pre-inspection meetings, toolbox meetings, training and improvement programs as required.
- Ensure all statutory inspections of Equipment under area of designations are up to date.
- Ensure all log books under area of designations are filled out correctly and up to date.
- Assist in creating the maintenance budget, considering OEM-recommended maintenance schedules and historical maintenance data.
- Monitor and analyze actual expenditure versus budget, identify discrepancies, and take corrective actions where necessary.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or equipment reliability by improving efficiency in maintenance processes.
- Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure spare parts and materials are procured at optimal costs and stock levels are adequately managed.
- Ensure that all maintenance records, work orders, and inspection sheets are completed accurately and promptly.
- Ensure that sufficient information is captured to perform or plan the corrective task by using the work request and or defect notice request process
- Foster an environment of continuous learning, encouraging team members to participate in training and skill development initiatives.
- Discuss with the off-going or on coming crew potential safety hazards and issues, ongoing work from previous shifts, progress of the mining plans and status of work in the schedule
- Participating in on & off the job training and learning opportunities
- Demonstrate interest and wiliness in all equipment and company goals
- Participate and contribute to safety and improvement initiatives.
Job Specific Competencies
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with CMMS systems such as Pronto is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems relevant to drilling equipment.
- A solid understanding of budgeting and cost control measures in maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks based on equipment criticality, safety risks, and operational impact.
- Experience in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and maintenance management system workflows.

Experience required to perform in this job
- Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance coordination roles, preferably within mining or heavy industrial sectors.
- Experience with drill maintenance, including hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems, will be a strong advantage.
- Proven experience with budget management and cost control in maintenance operations.
Qualifications
- Diploma/ Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- A recognized qualification in reliability, maintenance planning or quality control.
- Valid driver’s license and membership with a relevant engineering institution (EIZ).
