Manage the Building Maintenance team, ensuring that the team operates effectively and efficiently through management of an in-house works team and appropriate contractors.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to achieve the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Council Plan.
  • To ensure that staff and the community receive accurate and timely information and advice regarding the provision of property based services to documented service levels and standards.
  • Manage the Team’s budget and regularly review accounts to ensure cost are correctly assigned to facilities.
  • Prepare the annual operating budget for building maintenance and develop capital works proposals as required.
  • Develop contract documentation and specifications relating to Building Maintenance functions.
  • Contribute to policy development, planning for the implementation of programs and development of the Team’s Business Plan.
  • Ensure that Council’s buildings are maintained for maximum preservation and presentation in accordance with applicable legislation/regulations and in line with agreed service levels and the available budget.
  • Manage a range of property services including cleaning of buildings, security, swipe card access and compliance with essential safety measures under the Victorian Building Regulations.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Substantial knowledge of financial management and systems for monitoring expenditure.
  • A high level of expertise in all aspects of building maintenance, covering the range of Council’s facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, direct and negotiate with staff/contractors and the public is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of safe work practices and relevant legislation related to safety and building maintenance/management.
  • Contract management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of safe work practices and relevant legislation related to buidling maintenance and management.
  • Demonstrated substantial experience in the management of staff and maintenance contractors.
  • High standard of oral and written communication skills including the ability to develop reports and correspondence from original ideas.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification to a degree or diploma level with substantial experience OR extensive experience in a building maintenance and works environment with technical skills and contract management skills.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
