About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly specialised research support environment, contributing to world-class scientific outcomes through the delivery of expert animal technical services. As a Coordinator, Animal Technical, you will play a critical role in supporting complex research programs across a diverse range of laboratory animal environments, while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, compliance, and operational excellence.

Working across advanced research settings, you will provide technical expertise in animal husbandry, breeding program management, specialised procedures, and research support activities. You will also contribute to the supervision and development of staff and researchers, helping to build capability and uphold best-practice standards across the facility.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Deliver high-quality animal husbandry, welfare, breeding, and technical research support across specialised laboratory environments.
  • Manage complex breeding programs and support advanced animal procedures in compliance with ethical, biosafety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide training, supervision, and technical guidance to staff, students, and researchers to support safe and effective research practices.
  • Contribute to facility operations, biosecurity, health monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives within diverse and highly regulated research settings.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position until June 2027 at HEW Level 6.

About You

This role is well suited to an experienced animal technical professional who thrives in dynamic research environments, enjoys problem solving and collaboration, and is passionate about supporting high-quality research outcomes through technical excellence and strong regulatory practice.

  • Demonstrated experience in animal husbandry, welfare, handling, and breeding management within a research or laboratory environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of biosafety, biosecurity, animal ethics, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to perform technical animal procedures and support complex research activities with accuracy and care.
  • Ability to work independently in specialised and highly regulated research environments while effectively managing competing priorities.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring staff, students, or researchers, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
  • Well-developed problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills, with a strong commitment to operational excellence and animal welfare.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, criminal check and medical clearance.

You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.

Medical Clearance

Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position. The appointment is therefore subject to, and conditional upon, satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. In addition, the Employee is required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures associated with the position.
