Worksite: 21st Century CLC Program, Tudor Elementary

The 21st Century Community Learning Center Coordinator supervises a daily afterschool program for academic enrichment. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and is represented by the Anchorage Council of Education bargaining unit.

Job Requirements
The following are required:

  1. A bachelor's degree in education, organizational management, human services, or a related field. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  2. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and appropriate insurance.
  3. Must obtain a first aid/CPR certificate within one month of employment.
  4. Must obtain a Student Nutrition ServSafe certificate within one month of employment.


The following are preferred:

  1. Four years of experience in one or more of the following human services fields is preferred: adult education, classroom teaching, community development, organizational management, recreation, public affairs, or community services.
  2. Knowledge of organizational management practices.
  3. Knowledge of record keeping and report writing.
  4. Ability to work in a school setting and occasionally work evenings or weekends.


Essential Job Functions

  1. Effectively provides supervision of the 21 Century Community Learning Center Program on a daily basis, serving as first point of contact for program leadership and needs..
  2. Resolves student discipline problems, handles conflict, and makes effective decisions under pressure.
  3. Maintains appropriate records of the overall program and submits on a scheduled basis or as required.
  4. Ensures a safe, structured afterschool academic and enrichment schedule in accordance with grant goals and objectives.
  5. Coordinates as needed with ASD departments providing individualized services to various students such as Title 1, English Language Learner, special needs students, etc.
  6. In collaboration with school staff, ensures afterschool programming is in alignment with the school day curriculum.
  7. In coordination with 21st CLCC manager and school principal, provides support to school staff in areas of need such as attendance, leading reading intervention programs, assisting in student discipline, etc. Support will be determined based on site needs.
  8. Collaborates with 21st CLCC Department staff in support of program objectives.
  9. Works proficiently in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  10. Completes performance reports and submits them to the program manager.
  11. Oversees the provision of a healthy snack for students.
  12. Monitors and tracks expenditures of grant or other funds.
  13. Enters data for evaluation of program to include: attendance, activities, registration, and other data as determined.
  14. Communicates with school staff, families of students, and principal about program needs and progress.
  15. Conducts recruitment and registration for students participating in the afterschool program.
  16. Completes instructor agreements, timesheets, and payroll for the afterschool staff.
  17. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies, organizations, businesses, and neighborhood groups to provide additional resources to the afterschool program.
  18. Participates in school and staff committees that support goals and objectives of the state grants.
  19. Coordinates student transportation with the Anchorage School District Transportation Department, Child in Transition, and families of students, ensuring safe dismissal of students.
  20. Attends school and 21st CCLC staff meetings and staff development as scheduled.
  21. Completes mandatory ASD training as outlined in district and department guidelines.
  22. Recruits, supervises, schedules, monitors, and evaluates staff working in the afterschool program.
  23. Procures supplies and resources to support the program.
  24. Effectively interprets directions, either oral or written, from supervisors.
  25. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with students, families, school administration, and community members.


Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
