St. Michael’s Fenwyck Heights is seeking a reliable and skilled Permanent Part-Time Cook to join our new independent living community in Spruce Grove. Reporting to the Manager, Fenwyck Heights, this position involves preparing nutritious and delicious meals for Residents, adhering to menu schedules, and maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. The ideal candidate has experience cooking for large groups, a positive attitude, and a commitment to providing exceptional service in a senior care environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare ingredients and produce meals according to approved recipes and production sheets.
  • Cook and serve meat, fish, soups, vegetables, and desserts as per menu schedules, ensuring meal quality, temperature, and portion accuracy.
  • Test and adjust seasoning to ensure optimal flavor and texture.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team on meal preparation, including modified diets.
  • Utilize leftovers effectively to minimize food waste.
  • Measure and mix ingredients using a variety of kitchen equipment to prepare soups, sauces, casseroles, and baked goods.
  • Bake, roast, steam, and broil foods, as well as prepare sandwiches, cereals, and beverages.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work areas and assist with pot washing, utensils, and floor cleaning.
  • Report menu changes, supply shortages, or equipment issues to the Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with Residents, staff, and visitors, maintaining confidentiality and promoting a positive environment.
  • Participate in orientation and staff development programs as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyperson Cook certificate or post-secondary education will be considered an asset.
  • 2 years of experience cooking for large groups, e.g. weddings, catering, etc.
  • A friendly disposition and good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work closely with seniors, and/or physically/mentally challenged individuals and within the value system of St. Michael’s Health Group.

All successful candidates must have, prior to start date:

  • A current and clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
  • A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
