Description

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is looking for a self-motivated, energetic Cook I who possesses the desire to care for Kentucky’s Veterans. Expectations for the Cook I include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in preparing and serving meals while maintaining dietary work areas, equipment, and utensils in safe, clean and sanitary condition.
  • Prepares and serves palatable or appetizing meals in a timely basis and in accordance with sanitary regulations.
  • Tastes meals to determine if properly cooked and seasoned.
  • Ensures scheduled cleaning duties (dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, etc.) are completed.
  • Disposes of food and waste in accordance with rules and regulations.

The ideal candidate will work within a team-centered environment to meet our commitment to serving Kentucky's Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care.

This position has an approved Locality Premium of $4.88, based on the organizational structure and work county it is currently assigned to, in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(1).

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: NONE

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of cooking experience in an institutional or large scale commercial setting.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational training in food service will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
