Job Description

  • Location: Anacortes, WA / Onsite
  • Schedule: 1.0 FTE / Days
  • Salary Range: $20.14 – $29.92 / per hour

Shift Differentials:

  • Night Differential - $2.25
  • Evening Differential - $1.65
  • Weekend Differential - $1.50

Works with the Director of Food Services in planning how to best prepare food for patients, employees, cafeteria, and senior center.

What you will be doing:

  • Informs department head of violations of food safety regulations.
  • Prepares all foods for patients, employees and cafeteria.
  • Reviews menus, special food orders and confers with the cafeteria hostess to determine amounts of food to prepare.
  • Plans foods so they will be ready at specified times.
  • Plans utilization of leftovers.
  • Follows standardized recipes, modifying recipes as necessary for special diets.
  • Assists in evaluating and modifying recipes to improve acceptability.
  • Ensures cost control and sanitation in all areas of job.
  • Serves foods following standards for portion sizes for patient meals.
  • Occasionally provides oversight to other employees in the absence of the lead cook and/or Director.
  • Other routine kitchen work includes washing pots and pans, cleaning work area and general cleaning.
  • Assists with food ordering and some aspects of department management.
  • Responsible for referring potentially ill dietary workers to the charge nurse for assessment of fitness for duty.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Minimum of 1 year institutional cooking
  • Current Food & Beverage Worker’s Permit
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
  • Ability to work closely with other employees under changing conditions
  • Ability to work independently, organize own schedule and make effective use of slack time
  • Ability to guide other employees and make decisions
  • Can demonstrate a working knowledge of principles of food safety
