About the role:
As a Chef at RSL LifeCare, every day you’re empowered to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives. Within our supportive work environment your skills and compassion are valued. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead all aspects of food operations including food safety, preparation and service, ordering, cost and quality control for the Residential Care site

  • Play a leadership role that includes team supervision, documentation, training and development

  • Role model a customer service mindset and create a welcoming environment for residents and their visitors

  • Partner with residents and families about food choices, preferences and requirements and create an enjoyable dining experience for residents and visitors

  • Plan, prepare and supervise special meals and cater to all dietary requirements (e.g. low salt, diabetic, coeliac, soft, texture modified diets, pureed, high/low protein)

  • Take responsibility for Food Safety Plan (HACCP) and ensure quality standards and regulatory requirements are consistently met

  • Build strong and productive relationships with your team to deliver a positive dining experience

About You:
We are excited to hear from you about this role! We are looking out for:

  • Your demonstrated compassion and empathy. Our teams have a passion for what they do and the impact they make to our residents and their families.

  • Your excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to ensure the best possible resident experience and teamwork

  • Your track record of leadership, ability to coordinate kitchen operations in a busy and fast-paced environment and provide clarity and direction to the team

  • Your experience in menu planning and catering to modified diets

  • Your ability to work efficiently and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards

  • Current knowledge of Food Handling Legislative including HACCP requirements

  • Certificate 3 or 4 in Commercial Cookery as well as Food Safety Certification

  • Australian Working Rights

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville. Together, we are committed to improving the health outcomes for children today and in the future.

In 2016–17, more than 85,654 children attended our Emergency Department, 322,291 specialist clinic appointments were held which was almost 70,000 more than the previous year, more than 17,000 surgeries were performed and more than 48,552 children were admitted to our wards.
