THE ROLE:
Honeysuckle Regional Health – Violet Town is seeking a passionate and hands-on Cook/Chef in a permanent part-time or casual capacity to bring creativity and care to the kitchen. This vital role within a residential aged care home is responsible for preparing high-quality meals and desserts that residents can truly enjoy.

The position has a focus on large-scale preparation, while also ensuring all meals are prepared to a consistently high standard and tailored to meet individual dietary requirements and choice.

You’ll contribute to menu planning, recipe development and maintaining quality and presentation standards across all dishes.


Working collaboratively with the catering team, you’ll play an essential role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience for residents.

KEY DUTIES:
  • Prepare, cook and present high-quality meals and desserts for residents, ensuring appealing appearance, taste and consistency
  • Focus on scaled preparation while maintaining standards across all meal services
  • Follow established menus and recipes, and contribute to the development of recipes, themed menus and meal plans
  • Ensure/Adhere that meals and desserts meet individual resident dietary requirements, preferences and textures
  • Ensure all food handling, storage, preparation and service meet relevant food safety, hygiene, infection control and regulatory standards
  • Ensure kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas are cleaned, sanitised and maintained to a high standard; help identify and report equipment faults or maintenance needs
  • Work within the catering team, supporting colleagues and collaborating with the food service manager, dietitian/nutritionist, nursing and care teams to meet resident needs
  • Maintain accurate records as required (e.g., food temperature logs, menu changes, stock rotation
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives: provide feedback on menus, suggest improvements, respond to resident feedback
  • Be flexible and willing to assist with variation in workload or special events and celebrations (e.g., themed days, birthdays, seasonal menus) that enhance the dining experience
  • Promote a respectful, supportive and safe work environment; engage professionally with residents, families and colleagues; support resident dignity and preferences at all times
ESSENTIAL
  • Certificate III (or higher) in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience working as a Cook or Chef in an aged care, health care or large-scale catering environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and infection control standards, including compliance with the Food Safety Standards
  • Ability to prepare, cook, and present high-quality meals and desserts for large numbers while maintaining flavour, texture and presentation consistency
  • Understanding of dietary modifications and special dietary needs (e.g. texture-modified, diabetic, low-salt, allergen-free, vegetarian and cultural diets)
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy kitchen environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary aged care team
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as required
  • Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain prior)

  • Aged or Health Care experience desired
