Site: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, Lyndhurst Centre
Department: Nutrition Services
Reports to: TRI Nutrition Services Supervisor
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Wage Range: $29.43 - $29.88 per hour. Start rate non-negotiable.
Shifts: Weekdays and Alternating Weekends (09:30-17:30)
Status: Temporary Full-Time (up to 3 months)
Closing Date: August 27, 2026

Duties:

  • Prepare food items for next-day tray assembly following approved recipes and production sheets
  • Assist with food preparations for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including texture modified items, hot entrees, starches, and vegetables
  • Assist with sandwich preparations
  • Store products using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles and ensure proper labelling, dating, and organization
  • Adheres to Therapeutic diet orders and understand the potential risks associated with diet inaccuracies, allergens, texture modifications and other nutrition related safety concerns
  • Ensure proper labeling, dating, and storage of all prepared items according to food safety standards
  • Maintain appropriate temperature control and safe food handling practices during preparation
  • Record production quantities and report shortages or discrepancies to the Supervisor
  • Organize and stock supplies for ongoing and next-day operations
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and work areas; support pot washing and restocking of production tools
  • Follow departmental policies related to hygiene, uniform standards, and workplace safety

Qualifications

  • This position requires Red Seal certification
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Current Food Handler Certification
  • Adheres to Therapeutic diet orders and understand the potential risks associated with diet inaccuracies, allergens, texture modifications and other nutrition related safety concerns
  • Ability to read and follow production sheets and standardized recipes
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform food preparation tasks
  • Newhires must have grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and oral English language skills required.
  • Good manual dexterity and organizational skills.
  • Good team player.
  • Food handling experiences, communication skills with staff and management
  • Excellent safe food handling
  • Available alternating weekend
  • Displays initiative to continually improve service and able to make executive decisions independently when required

Working Conditions

  • Kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold storage areas, steam, and kitchen equipment.
  • Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, and repetitive food preparation tasks.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of food items, equipment, and carts.
  • Exposure to sharp tools, hot surfaces, and cleaning/sanitizing chemicals
