About the role

Are you a passionate cook who loves making a positive impact through your culinary skills? selectability is currently seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team aged care team in the Lower Gulf of Queensland at Doomadgee, Mornington Island and Normanton. In this rewarding role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious and delicious meals for our older persons, ensuring their dietary needs are met with care and creativity.

This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older persons and promoting their independence while respecting the dignity and cultural backgrounds. The Cook collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care services that meet the unique needs and challenges faced by seniors in regional and remote areas.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with dietary requirements and preferences.
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, adhering to food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the care team to create meal plans that promote residents’ health and well-being.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies as needed to ensure fresh and high-quality ingredients.
  • Provide exceptional service to older persons, ensuring a positive dining experience.

About you

To be successful you must:

  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure whilst maintaining a professional manner
  • Prepare, cook, service nutritious meals across breakfast, lunch and dinner for residents and employees, taking into account their dietary requirements and preferences
  • Experience menu planning, to ensure nutritional needs are being met
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Possess clear and effective communication skills
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures at all times
  • Be able to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals

Role requirements

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or the equivalent (required)
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (required)
  • Previous experience working in FIFO hospitality industry (desirable)
  • A current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland drivers licence
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate
  • Current nationally recognised first aid & CPR certificate
  • Current Flu vaccination (recommended)
  • Current Covid vaccination (recommended)
  • Ability to work in regional and remote areas on a FIFO roster, flexible to work across a 24/7 roster

FIFO workers:

  • 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster
  • Free accommodation provided and all travel costs covered

Local workers:

  • Full time/ part time, casual hours available
