Job Description

Brief Summary of role:

The cook will be responsible for providing all residential and program clients with a nutritious diet that assists in recovery from alcohol and other drug dependency. To ensure that all dietary requirements are catered for, including food intolerances and allergies.

The cook will be required to manage food budgets, stock control, minimise wastage, developing meal plans and cooking programs.

The cook is responsible for domestic and cleaning duties and keeping a hygienic kitchen and a safe and secure workplace.

The Cook may be required to undertake other duties as required by management relevant to the facility.

Remuneration package:

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $72,700.00 - 81,500.00 per annum (pro-rata)

Entitlements/Benefits:

  • 6 Weeks Annual Leave
  • 2 Weeks Sick Leave
  • 2 Weeks Ancillary Leave
  • 1 RDO per Month

Location: This position is based at Kalano’s Venndale Rehabilitation Centre, 30km from Katherine.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day [Monday to Friday | 10:00am – 6:30pm]

The successful applicant should posses the following attributes, skills and competencies;

  • Qualification in Hospitality
  • Training or experience in rehabilitation and/or withdrawal services.
  • Qualifications in Alcohol & Other Drugs or willing to obtain
  • Good time-management, and organisational skills
  • Previous Cooking and stock control/ordering experience
  • Understanding of nutritional and dietary requirements, an ability to create a healthy menu to suit
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplined client base, including persons who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
  • Competent use of Information Technology, including software such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience working with Indigenous persons and Cultural Awareness
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safe & hygiene standards and practices.

Mandatory before commencement:

  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Valid NT Drivers Licence
  • Valid NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
  • National Police Check
