Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Cook with a primary focus on food recovery to support meal preparation and service operations. This role is responsible for safely picking up donated food from various locations throughout San Luis Obispo County, as well as assisting with food preparation, purchasing, sanitation, housekeeping, inventory, and recordkeeping. This position plays a key role in advancing CASLO’s mission by transforming recovered food into nutritious meals for our clients, supporting their journey toward self sufficiency, stable housing, and employment.

What you bring to the table:
• Two years of experience in institutional or commercial food services and/or culinary science education.
• Valid drivers license, acceptable driving record, and valid auto insurance is required for this role.
As a Cook you will:
• Assist in food preparation and meal service operations.
• Maintain food in safe and proper storage conditions in compliance with County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department regulations.
• Keep the kitchen clean and sanitary, ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitation after each meal service.
• Follow all safety rules and practices, using reasonable precautions while performing duties.
• Participate in daily food recovery efforts by picking up donated food from agency partners.Ensure all donated food is safe for consumption by:
◦ Checking food temperatures upon receipt.
◦ Inspecting packaging for integrity and signs of contamination.
◦ Verifying use by dates and expiration dates.
• Sort, weigh, and properly document all recovered food in accordance with program requirements.Perform other related duties as assigned to support kitchen and program operations.
