Pay: $17 to $18 per hour
Location: 3205 N Twyman Rd, Independence, MO 64058
Hours: Saturday to Wednesday, 11am - 7pm
As a Cook at Embark Independence, you’ll play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment where quality meals and meaningful connections go hand in hand. You’ll support our culinary team in preparing fresh, nutritious food to our students and staff.
Each shift, you’ll assist with meal prep, cooking, keeping the kitchen clean and organized, and ensuring smooth, nourishing mealtimes. Your work will support the well-being of our students with helping make Embark feel like home. By embodying our core values, you’ll help create a safe, therapeutic environment where healing begins with a warm meal and a familiar face.
Responsibilities
- Create a warm, positive dining experience that helps students feel cared for and comfortable.
- Prepare and portion meals alongside kitchen staff to support both students and staff
- Prep ingredients and meals ahead of time, including weekends, to keep service running smoothly.
- Chop, peel, wash, and prepare ingredients following recipes and food safety standards.
- Use kitchen equipment safely (knives, mixers, blenders, etc.) to support daily meal service.
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and sanitary, including dishes, surfaces, and waste.
- Pitch in for extra hours as needed during busy times or staff absences.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Considerable knowledge of food service operation including large quantity food preparation; general nutrition; receiving and food storage; food service sanitation and safety.
- Skilled in operating various institutional and commercial kitchen equipment.
- 1-2 years minimum cooking experience.
- ServSafe or Food Handlers certification, preferred.
