A leading New York City construction firm is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee full operational execution across feasibility, pre-construction, procurement, field operations, project management, and close-out. This role requires deep NYC construction experience, strong leadership, and the ability to drive quality, efficiency, and growth across commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects. The COO will ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest professional standards.
Responsibilities:
Lead all operational phases including feasibility assessments, pre-construction planning, procurement, subcontractor buy-outs, project execution, and close-out.
Manage field and office operations, ensuring schedules, budgets, quality control, safety compliance, and performance standards are consistently met.
Oversee subcontractor and vendor relations, including bidding, contract negotiation, financial tracking, procurement, and value engineering initiatives.
Drive strategic coordination with clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies while resolving field issues, optimizing workflows, and ensuring operational consistency across systems and processes.
Skills:
Expert leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate both office and field teams in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Deep technical and regulatory knowledge of NYC construction, including DOB processes, permitting, zoning, safety standards, and urban logistics.
Strong financial and analytical capability, including budgeting, forecasting, buy-outs, and cost-control strategies.
Tech-forward and process-driven, with proficiency in construction management platforms, digital reporting tools, and operational systems.
Requirements:
10+ years of experience in NYC commercial and/or residential construction, with direct oversight of ground-up or major renovation projects from pre-construction through close-out.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Demonstrated success in procurement, subcontractor management, scheduling, risk management, and operational oversight.
Proven ability to manage large teams, maintain accountability, and uphold high standards of quality and professionalism.
Strong communication skills and the ability to represent the company with clients, consultants, lenders, and agencies.
