Key position functions include:

  • Ensure processes and machine operations are performed in accordance with safety regulations and are carried out in a conscientious manner.
  • Operate machines by setting up and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks (where applicable,) tools, attachments, collets, bushings, gears, stops and indicating devices.
  • Calculate requirements, using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for practical problems such as computing dimensions, laying out work, and setting up machine tools.
  • Maintain specifications by monitoring the drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools.
  • Maintain machines, equipment and workstations to an acceptable Stream-Flo standard of cleanliness.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of productivity and efficiency.
  • Responsible to ensure product quality meets drawing specification.
  • Provide training to new machinists and/or apprentices.
  • Stamp machinist’s ID on all pieces, and re-stamp and/or mark heat numbers on pieces when heat numbers have been removed by machining.
  • Identify machining non-conformances by separation and/or marking.
  • Follow work order and process traveller requirements and fill out job sheets or record time using ERP system.
  • Report all machine, crane and hoist problems in the proper maintenance logs and notify Maintenance Department and/or lead hand/supervisor of a down time situation.
  • Other duties assigned by Lead Hand / Supervisor.

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a conventional lathe operator.
  • Alberta journeyman machinist certification or equivalent with the Interprovincial Red Seal.
  • Some conventional milling preferred.
  • Experience with large part turning and offset boring.
  • Crane and forklift experience preferred.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a face paced environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
